Sound familiar?

Legacy systems usually still work. The problem is what they cost you: slow changes, scarce skills, security exposure and an inability to adopt new tools such as AI.

What you get

Modernisation done in stages, with each step delivering value on its own. No big-bang rewrite that puts the business on hold.

Modernisation assessment

  • Code, dependency and infrastructure health check
  • Risk and cost of doing nothing
  • Options: refactor, replatform, replace or retire
023 signals

Staged roadmap

  • A sequence of low-risk steps, each releasable
  • Strangler-fig migration where it fits
  • Effort, timeline and benefits per stage

Faster, safer delivery

  • Automated tests and CI/CD pipelines
  • Upgrades to supported versions
  • Release practices that cut defects

Cloud-ready foundations

  • Containerised, observable services
  • APIs that open the system to new products
  • A platform ready for AI use cases

How it works

  1. 1. Initial call (30 minutes, free)

We discuss the application, what it costs you today and what the business needs from it next.

  2. 2. Assessment (2–3 weeks)

I analyse code, dependencies, infrastructure, release process and incidents, and compare modernisation options on risk, cost and time.

  3. 3. Roadmap and first stage

You get a staged plan, and we start with the change that removes the most risk or delay, often testing, upgrades and an automated release pipeline.

  4. 4. Stage by stage

Each stage ships to production and is measured: release frequency, defects, performance and running cost, so progress is visible to the business.

Why work with me

I've modernised and maintained business-critical systems across e-commerce, content management, CRM and ERP for more than 18 years, and led the global teams who run them. I know the practical constraints: the system has to keep earning money while it changes, the people who know it are busy, and every migration step needs a rollback plan.

Modernisation is also how organisations become ready for AI. The work pays off twice: lower running costs today, and a platform that can take on new capabilities tomorrow.

  • Legacy modernisation and migration
  • PHP upgrades, Laravel and Symfony
  • APIs and system integration
  • CI/CD and release automation
  • Cloud and container platforms
  • Agile delivery and process improvement

Questions leaders ask

What is application modernization?

It is the process of updating an existing application's code, architecture, infrastructure and delivery practices so it becomes easier and cheaper to change, more secure and ready for new capabilities such as APIs, cloud and AI.

Should we rewrite or modernise our legacy application?

In most cases, modernise in stages. Rewrites take longer than planned and freeze the business meanwhile. A staged approach replaces the riskiest parts first while the system keeps running, and each step delivers value.

How long does modernisation take?

The assessment takes two to three weeks. The full programme depends on the system's size and goals, but the first improvements, such as automated releases or a supported runtime, usually reach production within the first few months.

Can you modernise PHP applications?

Yes. Upgrading older PHP applications to supported versions and modern frameworks such as Laravel or Symfony is a core speciality, including test coverage, automated upgrades and CI/CD.

Will modernisation disrupt our customers?

It shouldn't. Changes are released in small steps with automated tests, monitoring and rollback plans, and risky migrations are rehearsed before they touch production.

What does modernisation cost?

The assessment is a fixed scope. It produces an estimate for each stage, together with the cost of doing nothing, so you can decide how far and how fast to go.
